What's it all about? 

You’ve already learnt the first steps in plastering, and have had plenty of practice. Now, because you want to increase your skills you will learn in more detail about fixing dry lining and plasterboard products to interiors, and producing plaster components.

Progression 

This qualification will enhance your employment opportunities and enable you to progress to an appropriate level 3 course at the College, or an
advanced Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements 

In our experience in order to be successful on this level of course you will need one of the following:

  • four GCSEs at grades D-F (including English and maths) and a level 1 diploma
  • a BTEC foundation diploma in a related subject
  • an NVQ level 1/technical certificate in a related subject
  • successful completion of the PLP/Prince’s Trust programme
  • equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

 

 

Duration 

Two years

Are there any exams? 

You will be assessed under simulated working conditions within the construction workshops, classrooms and the College's construction site. There will also be an externally set exam at the end of the course.

Course Content

What does the course involve? 

he main subjects covered are:

  • contributing to planning, organisation, monitoring and control
  • evaluation of operational activities
  • maintaining working conditions and operational activities to meet quality  standards.

When can I study? 

Two days per week in the first year - Monday / Tuesday, then one day a week

What's it all about? 

Plastering is an art. Ask anyone who has tried to do it for themselves and failed. It takes skill and lots and lots of practice to create a smooth, even finish that will protect and enhance walls. If you enjoy creating high quality work and want to work as a plasterer, but aren't yet employed, then this course is for you. It will teach you about basic plastering techniques, the various materials used and allow you to practice your skills in a simulated working environment.

Progression 

Successful completion of this course will enhance your employment opportunities and enable you to progress to a level 2 construction course at the College.

Entry Requirements 

There are no specific entry requirements, however you must show a willingness to engage and a genuine interest in the course that will enable you to progress into employment or further education.

Duration 

One year

Are there any exams? 

You will be assessed under simulated working conditions in the construction workshops, classrooms and College construction site. There will also be an externally set exam at the end of the course.

What does the course involve? 

The main subjects covered are:

  • handling and storing resources
  • fixing sheet materials (plasterboard)
  • internal plastering
  • solid work plastering.

Advanced Construction Award

Level 

Level Three

What's it all about? 

This course aims for you to gain advanced skills for employment in plastering and to achieve a nationally recognised qualification, which you could use to progress to higher education.

Progression 

On successful completion you may progress to a HNC or foundation degree in construction at the College, or a wide range of careers and management opportunities in the construction industry.

Entry Requirements 

In our experience in order to be successful on this level of course you will need one of the following:

  • four to five GCSEs at grades A*-C (including English and maths) and a level 2 diploma
  • an intermediate GNVQ in a related subject
  • a BTEC first diploma in a related subject
  • an NVQ Level 2/technical certificate in a related subject
  • equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

Duration 

One year

What's it all about? 

The aims of this course are for you to gain the necessary skills to enable you to enter the world of plastering and to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

Progression 

Successful completion of this course will enhance your employment opportunities and enable you to progress to the advanced construction award.

Entry Requirements 

In our experience in order to be successful on this course you will need one of the following:

  • four to five GCSEs at grades A*-D (including English, maths and science)
  • an intermediate GNVQ
  • a BTEC first diploma
  • FCA in Plastering
  • equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

Duration 

One year

Your staff will be trained and accredited in the technical practices of plastering.

Staff and students at City College Plymouth are celebrating today after the City’s league tables showed that the College was ranked fourth* out of the fifteen non-selective schools and colleges in the City. The College’s average points score per exam entry is 208.7.

What's it all about? 

You've already learnt good competent skills in plastering and have had plenty of practice through the qualifications you have gained on your Apprenticeship. Now, because you might be soon employed on big commercial developments, or on small-scale domestic jobs, repairs and restoration, we will delve into the planning and organisational side in more detail. We will also introduce you to technique using more complex internal and external projects. We know our course will excite and challenge you to want to expand your career.

Progression 

Successful completion will greatly enhance employment opportunities and progression.

Entry Requirements 

You will be required to have GCSE grades of A - C in Maths and Enlish and you will also need to take an initial assessment at the Work-based Learning Department.

Duration 

One year

Are there any exams? 

Assessment is continuous, both on and off the job. There will also be an end of course exam.

Course Content

What does the course involve? 

Advanced Apprenticeships are for learners employed as an Apprentice by a company within Devon and Cornwall. Funding is guaranteed by the Government for the training, with priority being given to learners starting aged 16 to 18 years. We can assist in matching learners to employers.

The course content will include:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Plastering
  • Functional skills: application of number level 2 and communication level 2
  • Technical certificate: Advanced Construction Award (ACA)
  • Additional requirements: health and safety test, Employment Responsibilities and Rights (ERR) programme of study.

College sets-up exam results helpline

Exam results time is never easy, which is why City College Plymouth has set-up a helpline for people who didn’t receive the grades they wanted or are still unsure of what they want to do.

Impartial advice and guidance will be available from the College’s Student Services team on 01752 305803 from 8.30am to 5.00pm on weekdays.
