What's it all about? 

This course is designed to reflect the activities and responsibilities of those who are fully developed and experienced practitioners, particularly in guidance and formal advocacy. Candidates might also have some managerial or training responsibilities. They could also be creators of information, advice and guidance, either disseminating information themselves as practitioners or through their organisation in the form of publications. Candidates at this level are expected to have a more dynamic relationship with other organisations.

Progression 

You may wish to progress onto higher education qualifications - for example a foundation degree.

Entry Requirements 

Although no previous formal qualifications are required to embark on the qualification, you will need to demonstrate that you:

  • are currently in employment
  • have managerial or training responsibilities
  • are a creator of information, advice and guidance within the service/practice
  • are dynamic in your dealings with organisations.

Are there any exams? 

You will need to collect a variety of evidence such as statements, observations and testimonies to build a portfolio. All of this will be under the guidance of an assessor. Once the criteria for each unit has been met, the unit will be sigend off as competent.

Course Content

What does the course involve? 

To achieve a full OCR Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Advice and Guidance you must gain 37 credits made up of five mandatory units of 17 credits and optional units totalling 20 credits.

Mandatory units

AG3 Develop interrelations with advice and guidance clients

AG14 Manage personal case load

AG16 Evaluate and develop own contribution to the service

AG 18 Operate within networks

AG30 Understand the importance of legislation and procedures

Optional units

A choice of 21 specific units which are tailored to the experienced advice and guidance practitioner.
