What's it all about? 

If your work means that you serve drinks in pubs, clubs, wine bars, café bars and hotels but you don't have any qualification to back up your experience then take a look at this NVQ. We will help you prove you have the skills and knowledge needed to work to the standards expected by your employers. You can be confident that, when you finish, you will have built up a sound professional working knowledge of all aspects of bar and restaurant drink and alcoholic beverage services.

Progression 

Successful students may progress to NVQ Level 3 Hospitality Supervision.

Entry Requirements 

In our experience in order to be successful on this level of programme you will need one of the following:

  • four GCSEs at grades D-G (including English and maths)
  • a BTEC foundation diploma in a related subject
  • an NVQ level 1 / technical certificate in a related subject
  • successful completion of the Gateway / Newstart programme
  • successful completion of the PLP / Prince's Trust programme
  • equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

In addition, you must be employed in a position that enables them to demonstrate competence in bar work.

Up to one year

Course Content

What does the course involve? 

This course is aimed at bar staff who want to gain a work-based qualification.

Units include:

  • health and safety
  • customer service
  • team working
  • handling payments.

Optional units are chosen to fit the candidate's job role.

Off-the-job training can also be used to reinforce understanding where there is an identified skills gap.
