What's it all about? 

This course will provide a variety of advanced facial and body therapy treatments. It will prepare you for employment by expanding and improving on your salon planning, communication skills and sales techniques alongside health and safety practices.

This versatile qualification covers varying massage techniques, electrotherapy and spa therapy, allowing you to focus or specialise in one area once you are qualified and gain employment.

Progression 

On successful completion you may progress to the Management Practice and Advanced Techniques in the Hair and Beauty Sector Diploma at the College, or a wide range of careers in the health and beauty industry, including cruise ships, health farms, spas and salons etc.

Entry Requirements 

In our experience in order to be successful on this level of course you will need one of the following:

  • four to five GCSEs at grades A*-C (including English and maths)
  • a BTEC first diploma in a related subject
  • an NVQ level 2/technical certificate in beauty therapy
  • prior knowledge of the beauty therapy industry
  • a 14-19 higher diploma
  • successful completion of an Apprenticeship programme
  • equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

Course Content

What does the course involve? 

There are four theory-based units which include:
• health and safety in the salon
• client care and communication
• promotion and sales
• working with colleagues in beauty related industries.

There are six practical-based units which include:
• body massage
• massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils
• facial electrotherapy treatments
• self-tanning
• the monitoring and maintenance of a spa area
• providing spa treatments.
