What's it all about? 

If your ambition is to work with children and young people, this course will act as a stepping stone on the way to a rewarding, satisfying and exciting career. There is a fantastic range of job opportunities in the childcare sector, and you could potentially work in foundation stage, pre-school, primary, secondary or specialist schools, with children to the age of 19.

Progression 

After successfully completing this course, you can progress onto a related level 2 course such as the Children and Young People's Workforce or Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, both offered at the College.

Entry Requirements 

There are no formal entry requirements, however you will need to attend an induction session and complete a literacy and numeracy assessment.

Duration 

15 weeks teaching (six months to complete the award)

To enable candidates to have an understanding of the workings within a childcare setting. To give employees or volunteers a good underpinning knowledge of child development and how to work with others and children.

Are there any exams? 

There are no exams. You will complete coursework and a portfolio of evidence to cover all of the outcomes required.

Course Content

What does the course involve? 

You will need to attend the College for 15 weeks, term-time only, and submit four to five assignments dependant on their credit rating to complete the full award at level 1.

When can I study? 

Various days, 9.00-3.30pm
