What's it all about? 

This is the next step in your career, in supporting children to learn and play, in a childcare environment. This qualification will recognise your caring nature, reliability and commitment and get you credit for the activities you undertake in your work role. Our course, based in Plymouth, will give you a thorough grounding in a variety of subjects so you can add to your knowledge and understanding about working with children and young people in a variety of settings within a managerial role.

Progression 

This course provides access to the Foundation Degree in Early Years, offered at the College. This Level 3 Diploma for the Children's and Young People's Workforce will enable you to work within the Foundation Stage, Children and Young People's Social Care and Learning and Developing Support Services.

Entry Requirements 

In our experience in order to be successful on this level of programme you will need one of the following:

  • four to five GCSEs at grade A*-C (including English and maths)
  • an intermediate GNVQ in a related subject
  • a BTEC first diploma in a related subject
  • an NVQ level 2/technical certificate in a related subject and minimum of two years' experience since gaining this
  • successful completion of an Apprenticeship programme
  • a good knowledge of literacy and numeracy
  • a clean CRB check.

You will also be required to attend the induction session and have a suitable work placement (employed or voluntary) working at or towards a managerial level.

All level 3 candidates will need to complete an activity to demonstrate their ability to work at this level.

34 weeks teaching - one year completion of full award

Are there any exams? 

You will be assessed in the workplace for competence, but the main assessment method is by portfolio and assignments.

Course Content

What does the course involve? 

The course is a work-based qualification designed for those who work in a childcare environment taking a managerial position in the implementation of children's learning and development for ages 0-19 years. The course is divided into mandatory units and a choice of optional units chosen from a wide selection of options offered, to achieve the full diploma you will need to achieve 65 credits.
