What's it all about? 

This course is designed for students who have a passionate interest in dance and movement. It will allow you to develop your existing skills and learn new ones. The College’s vibrant arts, media and production department has a full programme of professionally directed events that you will be involved in as a performer. This two year course is made up of bite-sized chunks that each give you a recognised qualification.

Progression 

On successful completion you may progress to:

  • a foundation degree in dance or a BA (Hons) degree in dance
  • a higher diploma at a recognised dance school
  • employment in the industry.

Entry Requirements 

Four GCSEs at grades D-F (including English and maths) for the level 2 course, four to five GCSEs at grades A*-C (including English and maths) for the level 3 course. You will need to complete a compulsory audition.

Duration 

Two years

Are there any exams? 

There are no exams. You will be continually assessed throughout each stage. This will include projects, ongoing work, practice routines, tests and evaluation. Functional skills will also be assessed.

You will study a range of subjects including:

  • ballet
  • contemporary dance
  • jazz dance
  • tap dance
  • world dance
  • street dance
  • being a fit and healthy performer.

The Plymouth Institute for Production, Performance & Arts (PIPPA) brings the College’s creative industries courses together with a recognisable brand. PIPPA houses professional drama and dance studios complete with full light rigging and stage props, music practice suites, media equipment, recording studios and IT suites.
