What's it all about?

This course is for young people who want to improve their English to get ready for work in the UK, an Apprenticeship, or a further college course.

Progression

The course helps you gain English and other skills for progression onto suitable further education courses or employment.

Entry Requirements

16-18 years of age at time of enrolment
Must be an EU national, a dependant of a migrant worker, a refugee or an assylum seeker.
Must take an initial assessment in English
Any level of English accepted

Up to one year

Are there any exams?

You will sit City & Guilds ESOL Skills for Life exams.

Course Content

What does the course involve?

The course includes a core programme of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), with compulsory units of IT and numeracy.

Units available include:

managing money

managing social relationships

leisure activities

preparation for interview

presentation software

website software

young people law and order

using the internet as a medium for music

understanding rights and responsibilities.

Activities may include:

drama
radio production
music
art and design
volunteer placements
orienteering
driving theory
local history and geography
sport and leisure.

The course also includes functional skills in numeracy.

You will attend the College four to five days per week.

When can I study?

Monday to Thursday, 9.30am to 8.30pm and Friday 10.00am to12.00 noon
