What's it all about? 

This course is for young people who want to improve their English to get ready for work in the UK, an Apprenticeship, or a further college course.

Progression 

The course helps you gain English and other skills for progression onto suitable further education courses or employment.

Entry Requirements 

  • 16-18 years of age at time of enrolment
  • Must be an EU national, a dependant of a migrant worker, a refugee or an assylum seeker.
  • Must take an initial assessment in English
  • Any level of English accepted

You will sit City & Guilds ESOL Skills for Life exams.

Course Content

What does the course involve? 

The course includes a core programme of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), with compulsory units of IT and numeracy.

Units available include:

  • managing money
  • managing social relationships
  • leisure activities
  • preparation for interview
  • presentation software
  • website software
  • young people law and order
  • using the internet as a medium for music
  • understanding rights and responsibilities.

Activities may include:

  • drama
  • radio production
  • music
  • art and design
  • volunteer placements
  • orienteering
  • driving theory
  • local history and geography
  • sport and leisure.

The course also includes functional skills in numeracy.

You will attend the College four to five days per week.

When can I study? 

Monday to Thursday, 9.30am to 8.30pm and Friday 10.00am to12.00 noon
