What's it all about? 

This course is ideal if you are already an apprentice gas engineer who now wishes to take your gas qualifications to a higher level. This comprehensive course will guide and encourage you, under supervision, to develop additional advanced gas engineer skills. You will then be able to tackle more complex systems in-depth so that when you finish the course you will have the confidence and competence of a gas technician or supervisor.

Progression 

Upon successful completion you may progress to higher level, part-time courses at the College.

Entry Requirements 

There are no specific entry requirements, however you will be expected to undertake an initial assessment.

Duration 

Three to four years

Are there any exams? 

Assessment is continuous, both on and off-the-job.

Course Content

What does the course involve? 

Advanced Apprenticeships are for students employed as an apprentice by a company within Devon and Cornwall. Funding is guaranteed by the government for the training, with priority being given to those starting aged 16 to 18 years. We can assist in matching students to employers.

The course content will include:

  • Diploma in Gas Utilisation Installation and Maintenance - cookers, tumble dryers, leisure, domestic space, heating, water heating and wet central heating
  • Key/Functional Skills - Application of Number Level 2, Communications Level 2 and ICT Level 2
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
  • Employers' Rights and Responsibilities.
