What's it all about? 

If you want to learn how to be successful in the busy and vibrant ever-changing hospitality industry, then join us! Our course will give you the opportunity to develop a whole range of skills, knowledge and expertise to progress in your career.

This course has been developed by speaking to employers to identify the skills and knowledge required to be a supervisor within the hospitality sector.

Progression 

On successful completion you may progress to:

  • the Foundation Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management at the College
  • a wide range of careers in the catering and hospitality industry.

Entry Requirements 

In our experience in order to be successful on this course you will need one of the following:

  • five GCSEs at grades A*-C (including English and maths)
  • an intermediate GNVQ
  • a BTEC first diploma
  • an NVQ Level 2/technical certificate
  • successful completion of an Apprenticeship course
  • equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

Duration 

Two years (but after one year you will have completed a certificate)

Are there any exams? 

Assessment throughout the course is continuous in every subject. You are not only assessed on written work but also in practical situations, on your appearance, attitude and teamwork, and technical skills. Some units are externally assessed.

  • Asian cuisine
  • kitchen/food service organisation
  • European cuisine
  • themed event planning
  • business enterprise
  • work experience
  • marketing
  • health and safety
  • business operations
  • healthy eating
  • human resources.

In addition, you can study the following optional courses:

  • food safety
  • personal licence
  • professional bartenders certificate
  • barista.

Planned work experience in industry settings is part of your course and you are encouraged to hold a relevant part-time job.

When can I study? 

Full-time generally four days at college and one evening per week to work in the restaurant.

If you are aged 16-18, due to Government funding, tuition fees may not be applicable for your course (Please note: this does not apply to foundation degrees or access to higher education courses, and other courses not eligible for public funding).

Please note that fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2011 / 12 (August 2011 - July 2012). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2012 / 13.
