What's it all about? 

This course aims to prepare you for entry to higher education in the United Kingdom.

Progression 

On successful completion of this course you will have a guaranteed place on a foundation degree at the College or on an appropriate degree course at Plymouth University. Agreements are in place for certain courses at the Universities of Exeter and Luton. Students can apply to other universities through the UCAS procedure. Postgraduate students can take the course to prepare for further study.

Entry Requirements 

You should be a foreign national and have gained school leaving qualifications equivalent to five GCSEs at grade C or above, including maths and English (or IELTS 5.0 instead of GCSE English). Mature students' experience can be considered.

Duration 

One year

Are there any exams? 

Your assessment will include coursework and end of year examinations, moderated by external examiners.

Course Content

What does the course involve? 

Two subject pathways will be available:
• business (if you are planning to study business-related courses)
• technology and computing (if you are planning to study engineering and IT-related courses).

Business pathway:
• understanding business
• introduction to accounting and finance
• business law.

Technology and computing pathway:
• introduction to engineering technology
• technological applications of science
• introduction to computer science.

You will also study academic English, numeracy, study skills and IT. The subjects are taught at A level standard.

A main thing that has come out of the course is that I learnt skills that are becoming very useful in my career. The College has excellent ICT equipment, and I like the small tutorial groups and diversity of students.
