What's it all about?

This Apprenticeship programme is designed for new entrants to job roles within the IT and telecommunications sectors, or as as opportunity for existing IT professionals to expand their current skill set. Apprentices could work in areas such as software and web development, technical support, telecommunications or IT project management.

The Apprenticeship covers technical, business and interpersonal areas, designed to ensure you have all the skills relevant to work in today’s IT and telecoms job roles.

Progression

Having completed a Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship, apprentices can progress on to a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship, or continue to work and undertake a range of professional job-specific qualifications and training.

Apprentices could choose to return to full-time education, complete A levels, an IT Diploma, BTECs or a range of equivalent qualifications.

Entry Requirements

While there are no specific qualifications required for entry on to the Apprenticeship, employers may value a level 2 IT qualification, or similar, to prove your interest in this field.

Acceptance onto the Intermediate Apprenticeship course will be determined through an interview with the Work-based Learning department at the College.

While it is not compulsory for an apprentice to achieve an Intermediate Apprenticeship before starting an Advanced Apprenticeship, it may be beneficial.

Duration

Approximately ten months to one year

Business Benefits

Recent research (e-skills UK published Technology Insights 2011) highlights that over 90% of new posts specifically require IT user skills.

In the future it is anticipated that businesses will see increased activity in the use of mobile computing applications and virtualisation, new implementation of 'Green IT', and rapid development of new technologies to support business process management. Security and data protection remain one of the key drivers for up-skilling the workforce. This all means that there will be an increasing number of jobs whose principal activity will be using IT to support their organisations’ customers, people and processes. This framework provides the apprentice with the competence, skills and knowledge to work effectively and efficiently with IT systems, communication and productivity tools and software applications.
