What's it all about? 

You can complete the first year of the course to achieve a Certificate in Law and Practice. The first year has been designed to provide a rounded introduction to law and legal practice.

The diploma is a two year course which provides the necessary first stage of an academic qualification required to qualify as a Legal Executive Lawyer.
It is ideal for those who aspire to undertake a career in law, or for those already working within a legal environment who wish to gain a recognised professional, stand alone qualification to further their careers.

Students are welcomed from a variety of backgrounds such as public and private law environments, local authorities and public bodies, employed or those seeking to retrain or return to work.

Progression 

Upon successful completion you may progress to the ILEX Higher Professional Diploma in Law and Practice, Level 6. This additional qualification will allow you to fully academically qualify as a Legal Executive Lawyer.

Entry Requirements 

There are no specific entry requirements, however to successfully study law a good standard of English is required. 

You would benefit from having one of the following;

  • four GCSEs including English
  • a BTEC first diploma
  • an NVQ level 2
  • equivalent qualifications or related work experience.

Duration 

One year to achieve the certificate or two years to achieve the diploma

Are there any exams? 

Yes. You will have to complete a one and a half hour exam/case study per module, set by the awarding body, ILEX. You will also be set numerous skills tasks throughout your study.

Course Content

What does the course involve? 

Those wishing to achieve the Certificate in Law and Practice complete all units in year 1 only.

Year 1

  • Introduction to Law and Practice
  • Law of Tort
  • Legal Research Skills
  • Criminal Law
  • Civil Litigation
  • Client Care Skills

Those completing the Diploma in Law and Practice will continue onto the second year and complete the following units:

Year 2

  • Contract Law
  • Land Law
  • Family Practice
  • Law of Family

Thursdays, 3.00pm to 7.30pm

£800. per year. There is no discount on this course if you receive benefits. Please note that fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2011 / 12 (August 2011 - July 2012). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2012 / 13.

Instalments are available for course fees. A deposit of £200.00 is payable before enrolment followed by three monthly payments of £200.00 per year
