What's it all about? 

The fast track diploma (year one) has been designed to provide qualifying  law graduates with a direct route to final academic qualification as a Legal Executive Lawyer. The higher diploma (years one and two) provides the necessary second stage academic qualification required to qualify as a Legal Executive Lawyer for non-law graduates.

The fast track diploma (one year) is ideal for those who aspire to qualify as a lawyer whilst working. The higher diploma (two years) is for those non law  graduates working within a legal environment or those who aspire to fully qualify as a lawyer.

Students are welcomed from a variety of backgrounds with relevant entry requirements; such as public and private law environments, local authorities and public bodies, employed or those seeking to retrain or return to work.

Progression 

On successful completion of either the fast track or higher diploma you will be fully academically qualified as a Legal Executive Lawyer.

Entry Requirements 

In our experience, to be successful on this course you will need one of the following:

  • ILEX Professional Diploma in Law and Practice or equivalent professional qualification.

Applicants also need to have high standards of written English, ideally a level 3 qualification within this subject. 

 

Duration 

One year fast track diploma or two years for the higher diploma

Business Benefits 

The course equips students with current requisite legal knowledge and the professional skills to carry out their employment roles successfully. It aims to develop confident, able employees with high levels of written and oral communication skills.

Are there any exams? 

The course requires students to complete an externally set three hour exam/case study, which is produced by the awarding body, ILEX. There are also numerous skills tasks set by ILEX.

Course Content

What does the course involve? 

Year 1

  • Law of Tort
  • Legal Research Skills
  • Civil Litigation
  • Client Care Skills
  • The Practice of Family Law

Fast track students need to complete only three units - Civil Litigation, Practice of Family Law and Client Care Skills.

Year 2 (Higher Diploma Students)

  • Family Law
  • Client Care Skills

And a choice of one of the following optional theory units:

  • Employment Law
  • Criminal Law
  • Contract Law.
