What's it all about? 

The course aims to develop your knowledge and skills in mathematics. It will help you understand mathematical principles and apply them to everyday situations and to other subjects. This course is for those who feel ready to study in a more adult environment and have the self discipline and enthusiasm for their chosen subjects.

Progression 

Successful completion can lead to higher levels of education. It is also essential for entry into some vocational occupations.

Entry Requirements 

This is an intensive one year course, therefore if you are re-sitting this qualification within three years you must have obtained a minimum grade D on completion.  Mature applicants will be considered on an individual basis. In all cases numeracy and literacy assessments will be undertaken as part of the application process.

Duration 

One year

Are there any exams? 

You will have nine internal assessments and two external examinations at the end of the course.

Course Content

What does the course involve? 

The course will include:

  • Number - fractions, rations, percentages in everyday life
  • Algebra and graphs
  • General measures
  • Pythagoras' theorem
  • Data handling
  • Shapes and angles

When can I study? 

Various days and times or one evening per week
