These courses are all 'short courses' of anything between two and four nights over one or two weeks.
Although the 'course' has a selection of units, it is possible to enrol on as few or as many of the units as you wish. Completing the given selection of units will result in an additional certificate.
Although many people can use a computer effectively in today's world, many people still struggle with office skills on computers. The units within this course allow you to build skills which will benefit your use of office style applications on a computer (ie spreadsheets, presentations and word processing).
The aim is to introduce a wide range of individuals to these applications and to both support those who are new to them and develop those who may already have a basic understanding.
The course is delivered on a roll on, roll off approach and many units will be running at any one time.
You can enrol on as many or as few of the units on offer at any time. It is also possible to mix-and-match units across the courses being offered at the same time.
It is possible to progress from any of the individual units on to another with ease.
Progressing to other courses within the Computing & Games Studies section or other courses at the College can be discussed with your lecturer to ensure correct guidance is given.
Progression to a full-time level one course would be a possibility.
Completing a selection of the units would benefit progression towards a level two qualification within the section.
Progression to a level three course (full-time) would require you to complete a level two course first.
The only entry requirements for these units are;
Completing all of the units in this 'course' will allow you to develop a sound understanding of the use office applications have in business. You will develop skills and abilities which can be applied both at home and at work.
There are no exams within these units although to be signed off as completed a small selection of tasks must be undertaken.
The course contains a selection of units which are designed to develop the skills and abilities of the computer user; both at home and at work.
Access for Beginners
A look at what 'Access' and databases are and the benefits they hold for individual and (small) business use. Learn how to make a simple database and how to use the tools within the software to make the job easier.
PowerPoint for Beginners
What are the best ways to make an effective presentation for both the presenter and the viewer? Consider what elements of the software can be used to keep the presentation 'lively' and 'interactive' whilst maintaining professionalism and enjoyment.
Publisher for Beginners
A look at how desktop publishing can be used to benefit a business or organise a party and send out invitations. This unit looks at how easy it is to save money whilst maintaining a professional and impressive approach to publicising an event or activity; whether this be a meeting or a garage sale.
Word for Beginners
What is the best way to create a word document with the smallest amount of fuss? On this unit you will familiarise yourself with the latest version of MS Word and learn how this version can make work quicker and easier through the sharper interface and the quicker access to tools.
