What's it all about? 

As an apprentice you will achieve valuable occupational competence within a retail role. You will be employed and your job role may include a range of retail based environments. The majority of your training/learning will take place within your work environment. On completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship, you will gain a suite of vocational qualifications which form part of the Apprenticeship framework - an addition to your career.

Progression 

On successful completion, you may progress to a higher level qualification, subject to availability.

 

Entry Requirements 

Acceptance on this course will be determined through interview, diagnostic testing and vocational assessment.

Duration 

15 - 17 months - your current qualifications will be considered to determine the key skills you will need to undertake and the overall timescale given to complete the framework.

Are there any exams? 

A portfolio of relevant occupational evidence will be compiled for assessment purposes.

There will be a formal exam for the Certificate in Retail Knowledge which is a multiple-choice examination, that will last up to three hours.

Depending on your prior qualifications you will complete portfolios for both key skills* and sit multiple-choice examinations.

*Your current qualifications will be considered to determine the key skills you will need to undertake.

 

Course Content

What does the course involve? 

You must complete a framework which covers:

NVQ Level 3 in Retail -

To achieve the NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Retail Skills, you must complete a credit value of between 40 and 53 (depending on your pathway). You complete mandatory units and the remaining credits are built up from a range from optional units.

 Mandatory Unit - (this is the same for which ever pathway you take)

Work effectively in a retail environment.

 

Optional units

A choice of specific units which are tailored to the retail environment and the pathway you undertake. You have 15 to choose from if doing Visual Merchandising, 21 for Management and 43 for Sales Professional, Details of all the individual units can be located on the following website www.ocr.org.uk

 

Level 3 Certificate in Retail Knowledge - you complete a portfolio of evidence including lessons and activities to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding. You will complete an exam upon completion - which is worth 50% of the Technical Certificate overall.

Employment Rights and Responsibilities - you will complete a work book demonstrating understanding your rights as an employee and understanding the rights of an employer. This is incorporated into the Technical Certificate.

Key Skills - Application of number (2) and Communication (2)

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills - creative thinking, independent enquiry, reflective learning, team working, self-management and effective participation. This will be demonstrated from evidence you produce within you NVQ portfolio of evidence and will be mapped across.
