What's it all about?

This course prepares students for participation in a range of College courses. It covers essential core skills such as academic studies, English and maths and so will refresh your existing skills and will teach you how to plan and manage your learning.

On successful completion of each stage of the course not only will you be better prepared to embark on a more demanding course, but you will also be awarded a nationally recognised qualification. There are two stages:

Certificate - an introduction to some of the key subjects underpinning successful learning.

Diploma - a comprehensive set of skills, enhancing those acquired at Certificate stage.

This course is specifically designed for mature students who have not studied for some time and therefore need to brush up their skills in order to fully prepare for the next step in their learning journey. It is particularly suitable for those that are thinking of going to university and wish to "dip their toe in the water" before undertaking an Access to Higher Education course.

Progression

A level 2 qualification will prepare you to progress onto a variety of level 3 courses at the College (subject to interview), such as Access to Higher Education diplomas, some A levels or some BTECs.

Are there any exams?

You will be assessed through a variety of methods such as written assignments, essays, reports and activities, but don't worry, you will be taught how to tackle the different activities. Each unit is assigned a credit value. When you successfully complete a unit you will be awarded a number of credits (usually three).
