Overview

What's it all about?

This course is aimed at healthcare workers and individuals who are responsible for guiding and supporting others in the handling and administration of their medication.

The course will give you the knowledge, understanding and the skills needed to carry out this important work related support role.

Progression

On completion you may use your attendance of this course to enhance employment prospects, or as a progression route to higher level qualificationa in this area.

What does the course involve?

On completion of this course learners will be able to:

state what a medicine is
have awareness of current relevant legislation
know the importance of working to workplace policies
safely administer medicines
keep accurate records
store medicines safely
undertake risk assessment
take correct action if a medicine is refused
take correct action if an error is made
outline awareness of possible side effects of medicines
state various administration routes for medicines
explain the different packaging and medication compliance devices
explain the importance of infection control procedures.

There will be ongoing assessment throughout the session with short answer quiz papers and practical scenarios.
