What's it all about? 

Make your mark in this highly competitive industry and work to develop athletes so they can achieve elite sport performances. Our foundation degree helps you build impressive knowledge of the latest techniques and training, contemporary conditioning issues, laboratory-based physiological testing and sports nutritional strategies for you to put into working practice. You will also learn about Olympic weight lifting techniques and appreciate the holistic view of improving sporting performance.

Progression 

On successful completion you may progress to:

  • the one year BSc (Hons) Health and Fitness top-up degree at Plymouth University
  • the final year of the BSc (Hons) Strength, Conditioning and Coaching degree at the University College of St Mark & St John (subject to approval)
  • the second or final year of health and fitness degrees at a range of universities
  • a wide range of careers in health, fitness and sports therapy industries.

Entry Requirements 

we welcome applications from those who have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above including English and maths, and one of the following:

  • 160 UCAS tariff points
  • a BTEC national award in a related subject
  • a 14-19 advanced diploma
  • an advanced Apprenticeship
  • an NVQ level 3 in a related subject
  • equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

Duration 

Two years

Modules are assessed by a mixture of coursework including practicals, examinations, and end-module tests.

Case Studies

This foundation degree programme is pleased to have established links with a range of professional sport clubs.

Students will be given the opportunity to work within these professional clubs on both a weekly basis & as part of pre-season training camps. This will give students a fantastic opportunity to put theory into practise and become adept at working with elite athletes.
