Summer Mix is a programme of fun, exciting courses for young people living in Plymouth.

Courses are:

• completely free!
• For 11-19 year old (or up to 25 if you have a disability or special learning need)
• allocated on a first come, first served basis
• organised and paid for by Plymouth City Council

Here are just some of the Summer Mix 2012 courses on offer - these are all being run at City College Plymouth.

Introduction to Cooking

Put your cooking skills to the test and learn how to create nutritious and delicious food on a budget! A great introductory course for budding chefs, or for those who just love food!

Get the Celebrity Style

Two-day course
6 and 7 August, 21 and 22 August

This two-day course will equip you with the tricks of the trade in hair and beauty! All you need to know about how to look good on a budget and stand out from the crowd. If it’s red carpet glamour, or festival chic, this one is not to be missed!

Summer Game Jam

Two-day course
30 and 31 July, 1 and 2 August

If you are serious about video games or interested in looking at a career in game design, then this two-day exciting and intense workshop is for you. Build a state-of-the-art 3D environment and add one or more game characters, all while using industry standard game development tools. No need for previous experience or to bring your own equipment - everything is provided and the two days are FREE!!!

Short Film Making course

Five-day course
13 - 17 August

An introduction to film making for any budding film makers - this is a workshop not to miss! You will learn how to construct a piece of moving image, story boarding, planning and thinking about audio and visual as two separate elements. From this, you will shoot and film your own footage, import it into the editing software and learn how to edit using industry software ‘Premiere Pro’. At the end of the week all projects will be shown and each student will have a copy of their short film/music video to take home.

Behind the Scenes

Three-day course
30 July - 1 August

This exciting short course looks at the behind the scenes work in theatre, from writing to directing and performing! Develop your techniques and skills during this three-day course and create your own award winning performance!

Make a Difference to your Community

Three-day course
31 July - 2 August and 7 - 9 August

Put your team working and project managing skills to the test, whilst making a real difference in your local community! Working as part of a team, you will make a significant impact in the community through practical activities, from gardening to painting, you will transform the local area for all to use.

I'm a student, get me outta here!

One-day course
3 August and 10 August

A day of bush craft and ‘survival skills’ in the wilds of Dartmoor (venue subject to change due to weather!).

Leave the city behind and get back to basics on this challenging adventure. Put your mind and body to the test in both logical and physical challenges, including navigation, problem solving games, cooking and tracking whilst facing the challenges of the natural world!
