EU Activities at City College Plymouth - Academic year 09/10

Visiting staff

  • Goeteborg Sweden: 2 staff, funded by the Comenius project, on a fact finding mission for basic skills student groups and discussion on co-operation and project work for 2010. (December 09)
  • Eberbach Germany & Hjoerring Denmark: to strengthen cooperation for the carpenters and draft partnership project
  • Omnia Espoo  Finland: 2  IT staff to discuss future co-operation and draft project application (January 2010)
  • Directorate Ankara Turkey: 4 delegates to look at VET in Plymouth (March 2010)
  • Helsinki Finland: 7 staff on a skills development programme with  basic skills (May 2010)
  • Omnia Espoo: Education Manager for construction for 2 weeks in Plymouth (College & industry)

Outgoing student groups

  • September 09: 9 young caterers on long term placement project to Latvia, Sweden, Germany, France, Turkey (LdV funding)
  • April 2010, 7 students on a basic catering course to Munich in Germany (ldV funding)
  • July 2010 : 9 carpenters apprentices to Biberach Germany (LdV funding)

European funding applied for in February 2010:

  • LdV: Long term placement project for young caterers “not in education, training or employment”
  • LdV: mobility project with Cavan Ireland for 10 IT students
  • LdV Partnership project: Germany, Denmark, Finland, Spain in UK
  • Comenius: bi-lateral project for the IT Department/Games development with Espoo in Finland

European Projects active this academic year 09/10

  • LdV long term placement project  for young people in the labour market – hospitality
  • LdV two week placement project for hospitality students  in basic catering (duration 2 years)
  • LdV two week placement project for apprentices in the carpentry industry (duration 2 years)
  • LdV VETPRO, participants from the  Hair & beauty department,  hospitality, National Trust &  3 staff involved in the sustainability development within the college.

What happened in 2008/09

Visiting Staff

  • Espoo Finland: 4 staff visited on a VETPRO Programme.  Their area of research:  Training of teachers in the UK for vocational areas, counselling, bringing adults back into employment.
  • Cavan Eire: 3 staff to discuss co-operation with the IT department.
  • Huesca Spain: 8 staff to look at co-operation in a number of areas.
  • Halle Germany: visit to discuss co-operation with IT department.
  • Halle Germany: to discuss programme with business studies next year.
  • Pontedeume Spain: re-establishing co-operation with hospitality.
  • Pontivy France: Tavistock-Twinning group to discuss possible co-operation with construction.

Dissemination

Comenius

Event organised by City College Plymouth and attended by staff & students from all three partners colleges and  teaching staff from local schools.

Leonardo da Vinci

Evaluation and dissemination event for the LDD Project.  Invited were staff from all local schools and those feeding into this area of training.

What happened in 2006/2007

Funding has been granted by the Leonardo da Vinci Programme for a long term placement project; September 2006 to 31 May 2008.

In SeptemberYoung Workers from the SW will be leaving for a 10 month placement programme in Turkey, Germany, Finland, Norway , France, Sweden, Belgium, Eire and Italy.

At the same time 25 young people from Norway, Finland, Sweden, Hungary, Belgium, Germany, France, Turkey, Italy will come to Plymouth for a similar programme of training.

Funding has been applied for to the Leonardo da Vinci Programme for the mobility of young people with LDD and 50 trainers and tutors for mobility activities and placement.

A centralised project has been prepared for the organisation of a conference titled: “CHASE-ing Good Practice” and relating to Leonardo da Vinci mobility projects.

Decisions on the above three projects are expected in September 2006 and the Autumn.

Decision on the application of a Pilot project to analyse the outcome of LdV mobility projects, is expected in the autumn, City College Plymouth is proposed as partner and ONOCO as contractor.

Funding has been approved for the development of teaching aids for language learning for students with LDD – a Comenius project.

Partnership network Meeting (Hospitality) will take place in Istanbul in November 2006 and Bardolino in 2007. During this annual meeting the CHASE-network will propose an enlargement through the introduction of Greece and Iceland.

October 2006 a group of students with LDD from Goeteborg in Sweden is expected with their tutors for a three week period .

February 2007 – A group of young people from all over Europe is expected for a 5 month placement period.

June 2007 – a group of students from Velke Mezirici ( Czech Republic) is expected for a 4 month placement period

May 2007 , 3 staff and 4 students will travel to Helsinki to celebrate the successful completion of the Comenius funded project relating to language teaching for students with LDD.

A number of staff are expected in Plymouth from the CHASE network, for placement/staff development throughout the academic year.
