Home stay/host family accommodation
This is a room in the home of a British family and normally includes bed, breakfast, (packed) lunch, evening meal and some fruit, as well as utility bills and laundry.
You pay the fees directly to your landlord. You will be required to pay a £100 deposit to the host family which will be returned to you at the end of your stay provided all bills have been paid and there has been no damage caused to the property.
The cost of host family accommodation is £100 per week or £108 per week with limited internet access. Students who share a room will be required to pay £75 per student per week or £83 with limited access to the internet. Students on a self catering basis will pay £75 per week or £83 with limited access to the internet.
Private House/flat sharing
This is a room in a house shared with other students.
Usually, you would have your own room and share the lounge, kitchen and bathroom with the other students. You will have to do your own cooking and cleaning and will pay rent and heating, lighting and other running costs. For details of privately rented flats please visit www.thisisplymouth.co.uk. You can also e-mail the International Office at dvreugdenhil@cityplym.ac.uk to find out if we have had recent offers from private landlords.
We won’t be able to organise your private accommodation but can give you names of landlords and advice. Students will have to contact landlords directly.
You pay the fees directly to your landlord. You should receive a receipt or your landlord should enter your payments in a rent book. The landlord may also ask you for a deposit which will be returned to you at the end of your stay provided all bills have been paid and there has been no damage to the property. Your landlord may ask you to sign an inventory of all the items listed in the property and might want a reference before offering you accommodation. The cost of a shared flat or house depends on the property and location. Normally prices start from £70-80 per week excluding bills.
Please note: If you are under the age of 18, we will place you with a family, unless your parents provide written consent for you to live in another type of accommodation.
You must inform the college of any change of address either before or during your course.
If you have difficulties while in your accommodation, please speak directly to your landlord, Unite office, or host-family where you are staying first. If you are unable to do this, or need further help, contact the International Office who will provide advice and guidance.
