Polly Fitzsimmons

I was recommended the Personalised Learning Programme through Connexions. I’ve been improving my English, maths and computer skills, which is really good because I didn’t do particularly well at school.

My confidence has really improved, partly due to what I’ve been learning on the course and partly because I’m constantly meeting new people. I was a bit of a couch potato before I started College, but now I’ve now applied to do a dance course as I really want to improve my fitness so that I can go into the Army - I thought dancing would be a good way to achieve this!

I wouldn’t have been able to progress onto another course at the College without the support of my team leader on the Prince’s Trust programme; he’s like a big brother to me.

E2E event

Before starting the e2e programme, Richard wasn’t doing anything with his life, he was sitting at home smoking cannabis and wasting his time away. He had been in trouble, found himself going down the wrong path and was finding life difficult due to lack of motivation and smoking cannabis. Richard started the programme with a very positive attitude.

During his time on the e2e programme, Richard attended a work placement with the Web Development team at the College. They were so impressed with his commitment and hard work that they asked if we could extend his time with them. He was happy to stay with the team and even took part in courses with College staff members. Richard really wanted an apprenticeship, but this couldn’t happen until September. This disheartened Richard but he didn’t let it get to him, and he continued on his placement. Richard managed to secure employment with a company but due to over recruiting he was later informed that they could not take him on, again this didn’t get in the way of his determination. Richard continued to work hard to find employment and spent his time cold calling and working with College staff to help in his search. We can happily say that Richard has gained employment and is looking forward to earning his own wage packet!
