Providing education and training to Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall and the wider community
City College Plymouth is helping Plymouth's construction workers set their foundations to a better career with a qualification that will enable them to progress in the industry.
Experienced Worker Practical Assessment Route (EWPAR) enables construction industry workers who have at least five years' experience, but don't have a level 2 qualification, gain a level 2 qualification in just two days.
EWPAR is a recognised training programme developed by ConstructionSkills, the construction industry's awarding body, that offers experienced workers a rapid way to gain an NVQ for their existing skills. This qualification also enables them to gain a CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card - often seen as the ticket onto construction sites.
Pete Elmes, Academy Head of Construction at the College, said: "EWPAR is a rapid way to achieve a level 2 accreditation for skills you already possess, which many major contractors now insist on.
"Currently, competition for jobs in the construction industry is fierce, holding a CSCS will make you more attractive to employers."
The two day assessment involves a skill competency test, a professional discussion, incorporating job knowledge questions and a CSCS health and safety test.
The College can offer EWPAR in carpentry and joinery, plastering, painting and decorating and bricklaying.
