Apprenticeships on Offer at City College Plymouth

Get Paid To Learn With City Apprenticeships

Local employers are bucking the current economic trend by offering an array of apprenticeship and training opportunities to young people in Plymouth.

The employers in association with City College Plymouth are promoting their apprenticeship and training prospects at a technology, engineering and construction open day on Saturday 7 February at the College's Kings Road Centre, Devonport between 10.00am and 1.00pm.

The event will allow visitors to discuss the opportunities available to them, including apprenticeships and courses in a wide range of subjects.

Apprenticeship vacancies and training opportunities will be on offer from local companies including Princess Yachts, Babcock Marine, BD, Interserve plc, Plymouth Construction Training and the College's Work-based Learning department.

Marketing Officer, Sharron Robbie, said:" It is encouraging to see that local employers are committed to the future of their workforce.

"Now is precisely the time to keep investing in skills and a stronger workforce. Those employers who invest in training and apprenticeships will reap the benefits when we emerge from the economic downturn."

During the day, there will be interactive stands and structured presentations, and the opportunity to see current students' work. College staff will be on hand to answer any queries regarding courses, and provide impartial careers advice and guidance.

There will also be the opportunity for people to 'have a go' at activities including interactive computer programmes.

Kirk Hookham, Head of Technology at the College said: "This is an excellent opportunity to come and find out about what's on offer, attend presentations on courses, and tour the facilities. The event is not just about apprenticeships, information on foundation degrees, full-time courses and other training opportunities will also be available.

"It is really important that young people are aware of what the College can offer them, now is the time to be thinking about staying in education, apprenticeships and training, rather than going into short-term, unstable jobs."
