Providing education and training to Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall and the wider community
St.Paul's Pre-school in St. Budeaux is basking in a new light thanks to City College Plymouth's latest Prince's Trust team.
The team of 12 volunteers, who are aged between 16 and 25, have completed the 12-week Prince's Trust Team Programme, which brings together employed and unemployed young people in a unique personal development programme.
During the 12 weeks, the team completed a week-long residential on Dartmoor where they took part in various activities including caving and rock climbing.
The team raised money by approaching local companies, including Toshiba, Plymouth Albion, Cannons Health Club, the Carbis Bay Hotel, Paignton Zoo, Plymouth Pavilions and Woodlands, for donations to a raffle. They also took part in a daring abseil and raised over £100.
The team donated in the region of £800 worth of sensory lighting consisting of a fibre optic sparkleflex unit and three sets of sensory net lights.
Jade Reed, College training officer and team leader, said: "I am so pleased with the hard work and determination the team displayed to make this project possible. They all made a real effort throughout the team, and it's no surprise that the majority are now in paid employment or full-time courses!"
Sandra Moraham at St. Paul's Pre-school, said: "We are truly delighted with this generous gift. It will enable us to complete our sensory room and add a new dimension to the children's development and learning.
"We appreciate the effort and hard work the team went through to raise money for this, and would like to thank them all for considering our pre-school."
