City College Plymouth does its fair share for

City College Plymouth has shown its commitment to Fairtrade Fortnight by participating in a number of initiatives designed to tip the balance of trade in favour of poor producers.

All of the eateries in the College have Fairtrade status and stock Fairtrade produce. For Fairtrade Fortnight, they have been enticing new custom by offering at a reduced price. The College has also been using Fairtrade ingredients in its cooking.

College staff have shown their support by pledging their commitment to Fairtrade products and encouraging their students to show their commitment too. Both Sainsbury's and the Co-op have donated Fairtrade hampers as an incentive.

The College students have designed posters and leaflets to use as a marketing tool and room raids have been planned for face-to-face communication, with students visiting classrooms and giving talks on the benefits of Fairtrade.

A number of students and lecturers are joining in 'Go Bananas' the world's biggest banana eating record - eating a Fairtrade banana between noon on Friday 6 March and Noon on Saturday 7 March.

The College's principal, Viv Gillespie has shown her support by including a message about the importance of Fairtrade in her staff briefing on Thursday 5 March.
