City College Plymouth urges employers to train their staff for free

City College Plymouth is urging employers to take advantage of training their staff for free through the Train to Gain wage subsidy - keeping the skills of their workforces up to date so that when the recovery comes they can hit the ground running.

Every day 1.3 million people go to work without the skills they need to do their jobs well. With help from the Train to Gain wage subsidy employers can invest in skills, giving their staff the ability, confidence and motivation to deliver real business results.

Employers can claim for employees who are working towards and achieve a full level 2 qualification, a basic skills qualification and in some cases a level 3 qualification in courses ranging from adult literacy to an NVQ in health and social care.

Kathy Hyde, Train to Gain Administrator at City College Plymouth commented: "Train to Gain can help businesses get the essential skills to boost business performance, improve efficiency, increase profits and help their staff grow in confidence."

Charlton House Residential Home, Plymouth has six employees who are undertaking an NVQ in health and social care, all funded by Train to Gain.

Tonya Gerry, manager at Charlton House Residential Home commented: "It's been invaluable both to the business and our staff. We've definitely seen a change in motivation and confidence of the staff undertaking their NVQ in health and social care and of course it has a positive knock-on effect to our residents and business."

Prestige Nursing Agency, who has also benefited from the Train to Gain wage subsidy commented: "It's a great initiative, so far we've had one member of staff successfully achieve a NVQ in health and social care using the wage subsidy and we've definitely noticed a positive change."
