Providing education and training to Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall and the wider community
City College Plymouth performing arts students are to perform Pygmalion, the original version of My Fair Lady at the Devonport Playhouse on 24, 24, 26 and 27 of March.
Pygmalion, by Bernard Shaw tells the story of Eliza Dolittle, a cockney flower girl who becomes the subject of a bet between Henry Higgins and Colonel Pickering. Henry believes that after teaching her how to speak with an upper class accent and training her in etiquette he can pass her off as a refined lady.
The students performing are in their second year of a National Diploma in Performing Arts. The diploma allows students to cover a broad range of performance skills, with the emphasis on acting. The course is run as a theatre company with units in acting and musical theatre to name but a few, and the students are assessed throughout the process of preparing and performing a range of productions.
Lewis Martin, student at City College Plymouth commented: "This play has been a marvellous opportunity for the whole group, it really is a pleasure to work on as the writing is so beautiful."
