Providing education and training to Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall and the wider community
In light of the many problems with vandalism, yobbish behaviour, petty crime and violence, particularly in Plymouth's City Centre, being fuelled by excessive use of alcohol, The City Safe Partnership, in association with Plymouth City Council, Devon and Cornwall Constabulary and City College Plymouth are running free training courses for all bar staff to help tackle this increasing problem.
The course, funded by the Home Office, will deliver advice and guidance on underage sales, including sale delivery, the consumption of alcohol, control resolution, risk assessment and reduction, refusal to serve and watching for triggers. The course also includes advice on noise control, and the restriction and management of outside areas.
Martin Worthington of the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary commented: "It's a much needed and timely initiative. Training of bar staff is key to ensuring licensed premises are properly managed and problems are minimised. Bar staff are often the first and only line of defence against violence, disorder and nuisance or antisocial behaviour. Without training staff are put in a difficult position which we sadly see all too often."
Martin Nash of City College Plymouth commented: It's an invaluable initiative offering all of the elements that will enable bar staff to provide good customer service, and in return will encourage businesses to prosper.
"It is also a great opportunity for all attendees to discuss situations, share experiences and gain top tips on how best to deal with the challenges of working in the licensed trade."
