College Success at the South West Skills Awards

City College Plymouth's Work-based Learning Department is celebrating after clinching a number of awards at the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) South West Skills Awards 2009.

The South West Skills Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of apprentices, learners and employers who have excelled in the region.

Princess Yachts was awarded the large employer of the year and highly commended in the skills pledge employer of the year category, Plymouth City Council (housing repairs) won the medium employer of the year and Bonnett Electrical secured the small employer of the year.

Harrison Gough-Allen of Princess Yachts was highly commended as advanced apprentice of the year and Mike King also of Princess Yachts was highly commended as South West learner of the year.

Julie Mclean, Head of Work-based Learning at City College Plymouth commented: "I am extremely pleased that our apprentices and employers have been recognised for all their hard work and determination to make the apprenticeship programme successful."
