City College Plymouth Student Wins Regional Heat at SkillBuild Competition

Claire Hill, aged 21 from Plymouth and a painting and decorating student at City College Plymouth won the regional heat at this year’s SkillBuild competition – the largest multi-trade competition in the country for young students and apprentices.

Claire was tested on her ability to follow detailed instructions, produce accurate and neat work, whilst being economical with materials and working to a strict timescale – all essential requirements for today’s construction industry.

Syd Dart, painting and decorating lecturer at City College Plymouth commented: “Claire has worked extremely hard this year preparing for competitions, which has been additional to the work that she normally undertakes at the College. She has enjoyed huge success and we are all very proud of the standard of work that she has produced to win these competitions. We wish her every success when she competes in the national final.”

Claire will now face fellow regional heat finalists at the national final in the Autumn.
