The Prince’s Trust Celebrates its 150th Team Programme

The Prince's Trust eventThe completion of the 150th team programme marks an important milestone in City College Plymouth’s partnership with the Prince’s Trust - so to celebrate this monumentus event the College hosted an evening to honour the achievements of all the young people who have taken part.

The event was hosted by 2008/9 ‘Faces of Plymouth’ Debbie and Danny - two young people who have shown what can happen if you chase your dream and Antony Jinman, polar explorer, and ex-City College Plymouth student. Additionally, there was a video congratulations message from the actor, Martin Clunes.

A few of the incredible  student successes of the evening included James, who joined the programme after a stint in rehab to tackle his drug and alcohol addiction, which led him to a life of crime - he has now been offered a place at the University of Plymouth.

Lea, who joined after her life had reached a dead end and she didn't know where she was going to sleep at night - she is currently working with the Youth Offending Team.

Cheryl, who joined after her life was spiralling out of control with substance abuse - following a work placement gained a position as a training officer at the College and has now run six successful Prince's Trust teams and has recently been promoted to Lead Training Officer.

Julie McLean, Head of Work-based Learning at City College Plymouth commented: “It’s been such an amazing opportunity to honour all of the students who have taken part over the years.

“The Prince’s Trust programme provides such a realistic opportunity for these young people to get their lives back on track.

“Working with each student’s individual needs, we’re able to boost confidence and self-awareness, and as a result, enabling and encouraging young people to return to further education and training or employment.”

The Prince’s Trust programme is aimed at young people aged 16 to 25, who are unemployed, unexcited and unsure of the future. The 12-week course encourages the development of practical skills, self-belief and help with getting a job.
