Providing education and training to Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall and the wider community
City College Plymouth hosted its annual Awards Ceremony last night (Thursday 22 October) an annual ceremony about giving recognition to, and celebrating the success of its students.
The Awards Ceremony celebrated the success of students in the commitment and dedication they have shown to their studies, or for the sacrifices they have made to succeed at College.
A total of 33 students, aged between 16 and 62 received special awards. The students represented all faculty areas and were nominated by their tutors to receive awards, which were sponsored by local companies and organisations.
The final award of the evening, the Principal’s Award, chosen by Viv Gillespie from the 32 winners, went to music student, Chantelle Sharp who was described by her tutor as making enormous progress over the past year, both in terms of their vocational growth and her personal development.
This year, the awards were presented by guest of honour Antony Jinman, Polar Explorer and former City College Plymouth student. Other guests included the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, award sponsors, local employers, family and friends of the award winners, College staff and governors.
College Principal, Viv Gillespie said: “We are proud to be celebrating the success of our students. It is an honour to reward these students who have shown such outstanding qualities and achievements. It is encouraging to see winners coming forward from all kinds of backgrounds and stages in their lives. This reflects the diverse population of both the city and the College.”
