Students ‘Make their Mark’ for the Second Year Running

Make Your MarkBusiness students at City College Plymouth have been celebrating after winning their way to the regional final of the Plymouth Enterprise Week ‘Make Your Mark Challenge’ for the second year running.

11 teams, comprising of students studying the Business, Administration and Finance Diploma were required to come up with a new and innovative business idea that took its inspiration from something local and had minimal impact on the environment, and then present their ideas to a panel of judges.

The winning team was Plymouth Pedalz, a bike hire company to show tourists around Plymouth and the surrounding attraction areas on cycle routes.

There were two runners-up PlymSnax, a local food company delivering their produce by rickshaw to minimise emissions and Carbonectics, a local, carbon-free festival in Newnham Park, using a dance mat to generate power.

Alison Chapman, Business Studies Lecturer at City College Plymouth said: “All 11 teams worked really hard on their business plans and came up with excellent ideas, so it was very hard to choose one winner - However, Plymouth Pedalz excelled all areas of their business plan.”

Plymouth Pedalz commented: “We’re really excited, we felt confident that we had come up with a good business idea but it was still a surprise when we won.  We’re now confident that we can go onto the regionals and do well there.”

Plymouth Pedalz will be competing against ten South West regional finalists.
