City College Plymouth employee, Cheryl Powell, is celebrating after been awarded with a City & Guilds Medal for Excellence 2009/10.

The Medals for Excellence Programme recognises and rewards exceptional people whose work really makes them stand out.
Cheryl, who is a Lead Training Officer for the Prince’s Trust Programme at City College Plymouth,has overcome anorexia, self-harm and heroin addiction to get where she is today
By enrolling on a College course, funded by the Prince’s Trust, Cheryl was able to get her life back on track. Staff at the College were so impressed with her dedication and determination that they offered her a job delivering Prince’s Trust Programmes to other young people.
A judge for the City & Guilds Medal for Excellence Programme said: “Incredible! It must be such a joy and inspiration to have a colleague like Cheryl to work alongside. To see the dedication and commitment s
he has, and does show, is wonderful, and it is clear that she acts as a supportive, inspirational and motivating force to all those who meet her.”
Cheryl said: “It’s a great honour to be recognised for such a prestigious award. I’m just really grateful that I’m able to do the job that I do and use my experience to inspire others.”
