Budding Engineer wins an iPod

A pupil at Devonport High School for Boys is celebrating after hearing he won an iPod Nano during an Engineering Enterprise event held by City College Plymouth.

Nathan Vosper was one of 50 entries competing to optimise the throttle lever geometry for a V8 engine in a GT40 racing car.

The competition was designed to challenge engineering and mathematical skills, and each contestant had only three minutes to complete the task.

The students were able to see the linkage system which was simulated onto a computer, and were asked to change various parameters to obtain the best results.

Dr Andrew Watson, Lecturer at City College Plymouth said: “The competition was a great opportunity for the College to promote what the 14-19 Diploma in Engineering has to offer.

“Well done to Nathan, he obviously has a natural talent in engineering. The results he produced will be used to manufacture the throttle linkage system for the engine.”
