Gold for Local Student at Prestigious RAC Awards

Three air conditioning and refrigeration students at City College Plymouth have been awarded in this year’s Institute of Refrigeration, RAC (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning) National Student of the Year Award.

RAC Winners

James McClennon (23), an apprentice with Cornwall Cooling was awarded with a Gold medal and Jack Barter (18), an apprentice for Macwhirter Western was awarded with a Bronze medal.

Ben Webster (25), who also works for Macwhirter Western and shortlisted as a top ten finalist, was highly commended.

All three students who are undertaking a level 3 qualification in refrigeration were nominated by their lecturer Andy Channon for their outstanding NVQ portfolio and the dedication they have shown towards the industry.

Andy Channon at City College Plymouth said: “The Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Student of the Year Awards is the most prestigious award that a student can be entered for in the refrigeration and air conditioning trade.  We are therefore delighted that three of our students were shortlisted for the top ten - this is an amazing feat in itself, so to come away with the winner and third place is absolutely amazing.”
