Students’ Perform in Aid of Haiti Disaster

Performing arts students at City College Plymouth hosted their monthly Culture Café in aid of the Haiti earthquake disaster appeal.

The Culture Café is an opportunity for staff and students to showcase their creative work - the ‘open mic’ event has been successful in attracting many different talents from stand-up comedians, to bands and public speakers.

The informal event is technically supported by the College’s Live Event Production students, who organise the staging, lighting and audio visual elements.

Mark Trewin, Programme Area Manager at the College said: “All of the staff and students were keen to use this event to raise awareness and funds for such a worthwhile cause.”

He continued: “The Culture Café has created a greater sense of community within the College as this event focuses on staff and students. The coming together of creative ideas and practices has created a real buzz around the College.

“We’re very excited about developing the Culture Café concept and rolling it out city-wide.”

Shaun Gourley, student at City College Plymouth said: “The Culture Café inspires us students to get on stage, express ourselves and develop skills. The ability to be spontaneous and try out new ideas gives us all valuable experience – so it’s been great to be able to use all of this help out the Haiti appeal and show our support.”
