College holds trails for women’s football team

City College Plymouth Football Team HopefulsFemale students at City College Plymouth were invited to try-out for its newly formed women’s football team.

The College has been awarded a grant of £10,000 by the Football Association to develop women’s football for its students.

The grant will go towards training and coaching over the next three years, and the College has been lucky enough to secure training expertise from Mark Young at the Devon Football Association.

Phil Hague, Further Education Sports Co-ordinator at the College said: "The link with the Soccer Foundation, through its grant sponsorship scheme, is a great boost for the female football team.  The funding and the networks they have provided will enable us to provide give expert coaching and a structure and platform for regular fixtures.

“It’s a great opportunity for students who wish to combine training and playing quality competitive football with studying vocational or academic subjects at City College Plymouth.”

The women’s team will be hoping to build on the success of the College’s development team who are top of the Elite Men’s British College League.
