College Chosen by National Network to Share Technology Excellence

City College Plymouth has won national recognition for the way it uses digital technology, computers and the web to help its students succeed.

The College has been accepted as a member of the Technology Exemplar Network - a national group of further education colleges, which promotes and shares innovative uses of technology.

This is a great achievement for the College as only 61 out of the more than 220 applicants across the country were selected. It recognises the College’s commitment to transforming its teaching, learning and management through the use of digital technology.

The Technology Exemplar Network was launched in 2008 to help colleges and other learning and training organisations use technology more effectively by sharing best practice. It is led by Becta - the Government’s educational technology agency, and the Learning and Skills Council.

Phil Hockey, Vice Principal at City College Plymouth, said: “It’s a great opportunity for the College, as the Network was set up at the request of the further education sector.

“Members have set up mini-networks, they regularly swap research and expertise and join together to meet common challenges such as how best to use social networking and how to safeguard students online.

“By working together in the Network, colleges and training providers are learning how to apply technology more efficiently and are getting better results and value for money.”
