City College Plymouth employee, Cheryl Powell is celebrating after been awarded with a Worshipful Company of Tallow Chandlers Award - for outstanding achievement in delivering the City & Guilds Level 1 in Personal Development and contributing to the community.
Cheryl, who is a training officer for the Prince’s Trust Programme at City College Plymouth’s Work-based Learning department, has overcome anorexia, self-harm and heroin addiction to get to where she is today.
By enrolling on a College course, funded by the Prince’s Trust, Cheryl was able to get her life back on track. Staff at the College was so impressed with her dedication and determination that they offered her a job delivering Prince’s Trust Programmes to other young people.
A judge for Chandlers Award said: “Incredible! It must be such a joy and inspiration to have a colleague like Cheryl to work alongside. To see the dedication and commitment she has and does show is wonderful, and it is clear that she acts as a supportive, inspirational and motivating force to all those who meet her.”
Cheryl’s latest good news doesn’t stop there, as during the awards ceremony it was announced that Cheryl had also been awarded the overall winner for the Chandlers Award.
Cheryl said: “It’s a great honour to be recognised for such a prestigious award. I’m just really grateful that I’m able to do the job that I do and use my experience to inspire others.”
