Providing education and training to Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall and the wider community
City College Plymouth has been chosen as one of the UK partner colleges to further the development of international vocational training links, between Korea and the UK.
The exchange project is part of the Prime Minister’s initiative for International Education, a strategy to secure the UK’s position as a leader in international education.
Staff and students at the College have had the opportunity to visit Korea, where they have been able to promote UK vocational education and to build strategic relationships with their Korean partners - with the aim of being one of the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) training providers for hair and beauty in the UK.
In order to further strengthen their aim the College has been working closely with the Vocational Training Charity Trust (VTCT) - a national organisation, which provides qualifications in hairdressing and beauty therapy.
Only four UK colleges are involved in the exchange project, which is being backed by the Korean government.
The Korean government is providing funding to send 200 students per year to the UK for a 16-week training programme, and City College Plymouth is hopeful that it will be one of these training providers, given their involvement in the project.
Josephine John, Acting Head of the Faculty for Health said: “This is a great opportunity for staff and students at City College Plymouth, and testament to the high level of education and training we provide.
“We look forward to continuing to work with our Korean counterparts and hopefully training their students in the near future.”
