College Helps Smokers ‘Break Free’ on National No Smoking Day

City College Plymouth played host to the No Smoking Bus to help smokers ‘break free’ from their smoking habit and escape the chains of addiction.

Students and staff were able to access all of the advice and support available from the NHS stop smoking service. NHS staff were on hand to offer valuable advice on the dangers of smoking and the help available to quit for good.

Paul Green, Student Liaison Officer at City College Plymouth, who organised the event said: “The aim was to promote the idea of quitting smoking to both students and staff at City College Plymouth, allowing them to speak to the professionals from the NHS smoking service and get any information about ways to start the process of quitting.”

He continued:"The day went well, with the Plymouth Raiders players attending to help assist the NHS staff with offering advice to students and staff around the Kings Road site. Students came and spoke to professionals about quitting smoking and also had various tests done to check for carbon monoxide levels, and also blood pressure which allowed them to find out what damage the smoking was doing to them.

"Smoking Awareness Day is once a year, but smoking is a lifetime of damage, which is why City College Plymouth is a no smoking College.

Over 1,000,000 people quit smoking on National No Smoking Day every year.
