Colleges throughout the South West saw their students competing in all aspects of beauty therapy from reflexology to nail enhancements to media makeup, in hope of winning a place in the national final.

The WorldSkills UK is a framework of regional and national skills competitions delivered each year across the UK for young people and adults. The competitions are seen as a mechanism to showcase excellence to help lift standards of training and performance, promoting world class skills and international competitiveness.

Natalie Lewis, Beauty Therapy Lecturer at City College Plymouth, said: “It’s been an exciting time for the College, hosting such a high profile event.

“WorldSkills UK competitions are not only about finding the ‘best’ but are also about taking part and allowing people to improve their skills and learn from others.  It is also designed to test individuals against standards of work, now and in the future - all of which make the WorldSkills UK a great opportunity for all involved.”

City College Plymouth student and now member of staff, Stacey Shaw won a gold in nail enhancement at the 2009 WorldSkills event.
