City College Plymouth Lift Cup After Beating Derby

City College Plymouth’s development football squad is celebrating its cup win in the Men’s Elite National final, after defeating Derby College 2-0 at Doncaster Stadium.

The Kings Road based students booked their place in the final with a 4-2 semi-final victory over Dudley College.

On the way to the semi-finals, Plymouth also knocked out West Wales Academy side, Coleg Sir Gar 1-0 and Cornish rivals Truro College were defeated 3-2.

Five of the College squad have won call-ups to the British Colleges’ National squad and the development side, including Tom Moody and Warren Dawe, who have played for England.

Charlie Legg, Director of Football at the College said: “I’m very proud of what the lads have achieved – they’ve all worked very hard to get this far.

“We are one of the only teams in English Football Association who undertake a supervised strength and conditioning programme.

“The students are provided with access to the latest training facilities and performance software.

“These measures, along with access to good coaching, go a long way to improving their development as players.

“The Football Development Centre also provides a great academic foundation – therefore the students improve their academic background alongside realising their goals in sport.”
