Students Help Police With Enquires

Students at City College Plymouth have been helping the police with their enquires.

The Second year public service foundation degree students have been taking part in an action research project organised by the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary and the Devon and Cornwall Police Authority.

The 12 students were given eight months to research into three real-life areas of particular interest to the police – DNA, CCTV and public confidence in the police.

Sue Atkinson, lecturer at City College Plymouth said: “It’s been a great exercise for the students and the police.”

She continued: “This initiative has been running for 10 years. I know it’s of particular use to the police, in tapping into the youth market and having an insight into youth perception of the police.

“The police were extremely pleased with the quality of the work the students produced, so much so that they have asked them to present their findings to additional groups.

“It’s also such a great opportunity for the students, as they are now able to take this research onto the final year of their BA (hons) degree at Plymouth University for use in their dissertations.”

The students presented their research finding at the Council Chambers to the representatives of the Devon and Cornwall Police Constabulary, the Police Authority and other esteemed guests.

The College still has availability on a number of foundation degree courses and is holding a higher education open day on Tuesday 8 June from 4.30pm-6.30pm.
