Providing education and training to Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall and the wider community
Students at City College Plymouth have been celebrating their recent medal success at the Major International Culinary Challenge – winning three gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals and four certificates of merit.
The Major Culinary Challenge and Mini Series of Display Classes are organised each year by Major International in association with the Craft Guild of Chefs and are open to chefs of varying skill level from any type of foodservice operation.
A range of live and static display classes showcase pastry and restaurant skills, whilst the hot live Culinary Challenge, in which contestants have just 60 minutes to prepare and cook two main meat, poultry or fish dishes really puts these young chefs to the test.
City College Plymouth student Roberta Gilmore took part in the hot live Culinary Challenge and was awarded the gold medal for her two course meat dish.
The students were up against some stiff competition, with over 100 entries competing.
Martin Nash, Head of Business and Leisure Industries at the College said: “It’s been a fantastic achievement for all our students who took part. They competed at a national level and proved that they are amongst the best in the country.”
He continued: “It’s also an accolade for the teaching staff, who have put in a lot of hard work to ensure that our students are of the highest standard.”
