Providing education and training to Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall and the wider community
Over 100 Students at City College Plymouth have been competing in an indoor rowing competition with a difference – all of the machines were connected through specially designed software, enabling each rower to see their ‘boat’ on a large screen.
The College’s sports hall housed 16 rowing machines throughout the week for the event, and saw students competing in teams of eight, four and two and as individuals.
Ben Northcott won the boys individual, Jade Hankinson was successful in the girls individual and the team winner’s were the second year BTEC Sports students.
Phil Hague, Further Education Sports Co-ordinator at the College said: “This has been a really worthwhile event – the competitive element to this activity has been great in motivating and encouraging students, which in turn has led to more teams competing and more races taking place.
“The students were definitely motivated by seeing their competitors and of course themselves on the large screen, encouraging them to complete the 500 or 1000 metre distance.”
